How to use numbers when
reading the 40 Minor Arcana.
Tarot uses numbers to organize the movement of experience.
The number does not simply count the card.
It describes a principle of movement.
1 is the center.
From that single 1, the numerical sequence 2 → 3 → 4 → … → 10
unfolds into four different fields.
So the flower literally shows:
ONE → NUMBER → FIELD → EXPRESSION
The four petals are not four unrelated lists.
They are four expressions of the same numerical sequence.
The Numbers 1–9
1 — Emergence / Identity / Beginning
2 — Creation / Relationship / Polarity
3 — Movement / Decision / Development
4 — Direction / Fast Action / Foundation
5 — Learning / Meaning / Challenge
6 — Relationship / Exchange / Integration
7 — Testing / Mastery / Change
8 — Slow Repetition / Regulation / Belief
9 — Completion / Wisdom / Consequence
The number tells you what is happening.
The field tells you where it is happening.
The Four Elemental Fields of Tarot
How the 40 numbered Minor Arcana cards are constructed.
The I Am One Tarot system uses color coding for fast visual information.
It gives the reader an immediate overview of a reading before analysis begins.
The numerical principles can also be applied to conventional tarot cards.
🔵 Blue — Mind: Mental field of thought, opinion, ideas, and intellectual processing.
(Swords — Curved Blades)
🔴 Red — Energy: Energetic/spiritual field of energy, creativity, awareness, and resolution.
(Wands — Two-Headed Serpent)
🟢 Green — Feeling: Emotional field of signaling, sensitivity, bonding, memory, and resonance.
(Cups — Pear of Tears)
🟡 Yellow — Material: Physical field of health, wealth, possessions, quantity, and structure.
(Pentacles — Stone of Age)
An Example
If you know that 4 is active and fast by nature, its relationship to the field can change how that energy is expressed.
4 in Blue→ structure in the mental field — early conclusions.
4 in Red→ structure in the energy field — rapid completion.
4 in Green→ structure in the emotional field — emotional overflow.
4 in Yellow→ structure in the material field — solidifying stability.
Sometimes a unified field of the same color—the same suit—appears throughout a tarot spread.
The numbers it occupies can become informative before conscious analysis even begins.
The I Am One Tarot system uses these numerical principles across four elemental fields.
The result is not forty unrelated meanings.
It is four expressions of the same numerical structure.
Numbers are the principles.
The fields are the places where those principles are expressed.
The flower shows how one number can unfold into four fields of experience.
